An amazing group of students were able to shine their unique talents on the court over the weekend.  The Special Olympics teams from Frenship High School and Frenship Middle School trained hard and diligently over the past couple of weeks and competed against each other in a unified competition.

Both teams fought hard, and the Frenship teams brought home a gold and silver medal.

Grayson Oplie, a high school student at FHS, competed in the individual skills competition of the tournament and placed first. He was the only high school student who competed and brought home another gold medal.

“Overall, Frenship played some amazing basketball and I couldn’t be prouder of our students,” LaFawnda Kubacak, one of the coaches for the team said. “Our student body that stepped in and played along side our Special Olympic athletes are absolutely amazing! They gave our athletes the opportunity to score and made the game fun.”

Christie Haggard, who was in attendance, said she saw something special during the tournament. “There were so many volunteers and fans. People who took time out of their day to help a kid with no expectation of glamour and fame,” she said. “It all moved me and made me so proud to be a part of the Frenship Nation.”
