Fourth graders at Westwind Elementary were thrilled with the presence of the Texas Tech University Stringed Project who played for students during their music class. Dr. Blair Williams, Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of the TTU Stringed Project, brought instruments and other professors to teach the students about various types of stringed instruments. Students learned about the color of sound, pitches, octaves, and more. Professors played songs from movie themes so students could hear the difference between the instruments.
After teaching about the instruments, Dr. Williams allowed students to take a turn trying out various instruments. Dr. Williams is inviting fourth graders to go to Texas Tech and learn how to play a stringed instrument. Students who choose to do so will also have the chance to perform for the public during a concert. Several Westwind students have participated in this project in the past and had a great experience.
