Fifth Graders had a Hands-On Experience in Science Class at Westwind Elementary

By Angela Howard

Westwind Elementary fifth grade students in Mrs. Kirks class had a hands-on look at the difference between insulators and conductors.

Each group had a container wrapped in a different type of material.  Inside the container was warm or hot water and a thermometer. Students created graphs comparing rising and lowering temperatures to determine whether the material was a conductor or an insulator and why.
