Frenship ISD Implementing New Training for Staff

Frenship ISD is implementing new training to protect the District from cyber attacks and web hackers trying to gain access to confidential information.

This year, the number of cybersecurity incidents at K–12 schools increased by 30 percent, and school districts are now the second-highest target for cybersecurity attacks. Lawmakers have created the Texas Senate Bill 820 to give the Texas school systems greater resilience against cyberattacks, provide uniformity and oversight with a standard policy in place, and establish new processes for reporting and metrics.

SB 820 requires each Texas school district to:
  • Adopt a cybersecurity policy
  • Designate a cybersecurity coordinator (appointed by the superintendent)
  • Report cybersecurity incidents to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and district families
"Balancing convenience of access with the needed security to keep our student and staff information secure is a top priority in Frenship," Chief Technology Officer, Joe Barnett said. "Leveraging automation, AI (artificial intelligence), education, and collaboration with our staff has enabled us to continually improve our security posture in keeping our Frenship Family secure."

With the passage of Senate Bill 820 from the 86th Texas Legislature, districts are now required to implement several new cybersecurity measures including annual awareness training (CQB LEGAL). The kickoff for Frenship ISD's Cybersecurity Awareness Training began on Monday, January 20th, 2020.
