Westwind Kindergarteners Study Insect Life Cycles

From learning songs to creating posters about their insects, Westwind Kindergarten teacher Kim Ivie said her students continued the yearly tradition of learning about life cycles through insects.

“Every year in kindergarten at Westwind we have the students draw an insect and do research on that insect,” Ivie said. “They have to learn where they live, what they eat, and the three body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen.”

Students not only learned about where insects live, what they eat and their body parts, they also learned fun facts, physical traits and more!

Ivie said that the students put all of their research into a presentation for the class. After the presentation, they hang the posters in the hall for everyone to see.

“We had 23 different insects,” Ivie said. “The kids love hearing about all the insects each student researched.”

The students even learned a song about insects.
