It all started with an idea from Frenship FFA member, Emily Montgomery, a junior at FHS. Montgomery recruited several Frenship campuses to participate and help bring warmth to others.

Donation boxes are located at several locations across the district including, Frenship High School, FHS Ninth Grade Center, all three middle school campuses, and all eight elementary school campuses.

Frenship High School Agriculture Science Teacher and FFA Advisor, Angela VanGundy, said all items donated will be donated to the Red Cross, Women’s Protective Services, and Lubbock Impact.

“The needs of our community are always changing, but the need for comfort items is constant, especially as the cold weather approaches,” VanGundy said. “Coat drives can offer some basic protection and confidence for our community.”

VanGundy explained that she hopes that FFA is an organization that teaches students like Montgomery the importance of giving back to the community.

“FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education,” VanGundy said. “Students are encouraged to, not only participate in community service activities, but they are also often rewarded for their efforts by earning higher degrees from the state and national associations.”

The drive will wrap up on Wednesday, November 17. You can donate new or gently used coats, jackets or hoodies to any of the participating campuses front offices.
