First Grade Students at Westwind Elementary Take Home Ten New Books

Reading every day is extremely important for students in early elementary school to enhance their foundational reading skills. Ramirez has always had a passion for reading and wanted to give her students the gift of reading at home. Many of the students do not have books at home that are level appropriate, or their parents are not sure what kinds of books their child should be reading. Ramirez wanted to send home books on their reading level or just above for them to practice fluency.

One day while at work, Ramirez happened to come across an email about starting a Scholastic Campaign for your classroom. She set up a campaign and shared it on social media.

Ramirez set her goal to raise enough funds to send two books home for each of her first-grade students. However, with the help of four gracious donors, Ramirez was able to raise $295 and purchase ten books for each student.

The plan was to give them to the student as their Christmas presents, but like all things right now, shipping was delayed. Ramirez was able to send home books when they returned from winter break.

“My students were excited about their books and telling everyone about them as they dismissed for the day,” said Ramirez. “I plan to do a campaign each year in hopes of blessing my students with new knowledge and adventures.”
