Each year as the need continues to grow, so does the event and community support to help combat food insecurity. As part of the Tiger Bites Feeding Program, 400 backpacks filled with food will go home with Frenship students next week to help provide a helping hand over the winter break when students are out of school.

“Many of these students rely on the breakfast and lunch they receive during the school day. The food we send home in the backpacks goes a long way in supporting the families during the two weeks students are out for the break,” said Brandi Savage, Frenship ISD Coordinator of Special Programs.

Frenship partners with the Rotary Club of Lubbock and its members along with various other local organizations including the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, Reese Technology Center, Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Aramark, R. E. Janes Gravel Company, Marsh & McLennan Agency, Madera Residential, and Lone Star State Bank.

On day one, Frenship High School students with the Superintendents Student Advisory Board along with Frenship staff help sort, organize, and count out the food to make the bag packing process easier. The following day, students with the Willow Bend Elementary Student Council and Rotary Club volunteers help pack the food into 400 backpacks. To wrap up the event, Frenship’s maintenance and ground crews help deliver the backpacks to campuses across the district before the winter break begins.

“To see dozens of community members, Frenship staff, and students come together to support our Frenship families in need is incredible,” said Savage. “He could not do this without the support of our community, and we are so thankful to have this opportunity to give back in such a meaningful way this holiday season.”
