Frenship Elementary GEAR Teams Claim Royalty

Over 60 teams from the community local, including Frenship’s teams, donned their capes and armor and prepared for battle as they competed for top spots. This year's GEAR challenge was the Festival of Friendship, meaning costumes ranged from knight to royalty, and the tasks revolved around castles.

Even some of the teams incorporated this year's theme into their design. One of the Crestview Elementary teams designed their robot, 3Musketeers, to look like a dragon, with teeth and a tail.  The tail was decorative but also functional, because they could use it to open the castle gates.

Students built their robots and created programs to successfully complete the 7 tasks - Raising the Team Flag, Placing Dancers in Formation, Positioning the Cannons, Opening the Gate, Extending the Bridge, Setting the Table and Posting the Guards.

At the end of the Game Day, six Frenship teams earned a spot in the GEAR Championship Rounds to be held on Saturday, April 29 at Texas Tech University.

In addition to the six advancements, some of the Frenship teams took home some of the creative awards.

Best Themed Award - Upland Heights Team 2

1st Place Young Engineer Award - Upland Heights Team 4

Most Elegant Robot Award – Crestview Team 3

The Judges’ Award - Crestview Team 1

Good luck at the GEAR Championships!
