Students at Westwind Elementary participated in Giving Tuesday on November 27. Giving Tuesday is a day when we were reminded to give to others and not think of ourselves. We don’t have to give money or expensive gifts, we can give of ourselves – things such as time, hugs, words of encouragement or something else.
Students of all ages at Westwind decided to give something special to military personnel overseas who will not get to go home for Christmas. They have joined up with an organization that is stuffing 200 stockings with goodies for overseas soldiers. The students will add to the stocking stuffers by creating special “Thank You” cards with personal notes inside to give the soldiers some cheer.
They are using their time in Art class to cut out, draw, color, and paint the best cards they can. They hope to inspire others to have a giving heart as well.
One student said, “It’s really something special when you can craft a beautiful card for someone who cannot come home and be with their family at Christmas.”
